Stop Panic Attacks Without Medication
Being able to stop panic attacks without taking medication is far better for you. In the early days when you start to experience a panic attack for the first time, it can make you think that you’re having a heart attack. Palpitations, sweating, feeling dizzy, and thinking that you can’t breathe, can make you think you are about to die.
The most obvious way to stop panic attacks would be to see your doctor. He would probably run a few tests to make sure that your heart is ok. These may include blood tests and an angiogram. Afterwards if your health seems fine he may prescribe a course of anti depressants, or mild tranquillisers just to get you over the worst. These would make you feel calm and relaxed and stop panic attacks from happening.
Short term use is fine, however if you become dependant on them they may start to become addictive. Prescription medication can also have side effects.
You can stop panic attacks by firstly understanding what causes them and then tackling the problem. For example your anxiety attacks may be caused by a fear of water, and everytime you go near water you start to experience a panic attack. A hypnotherapist would be able to desensitise you to your phobia, and then your panic attacks would become far less frequent.
You can also stop panic attacks by learning to breathe deeply from the abdomen. During a panic attack you are taking short, shallow breathes from the chest area. This causes you to exhale too much carbon dioxide, resulting in symptoms such as dizziness and light headedness.
Breathing into a paper bag can instantly increase levels of carbon dioxide in the blood and make you feel better. Taking in slow, deep breaths from the abdomen will make you feel calm and relaxed. This is because you are increasing the flow of oxygen to the brain.
You are far less likely to suffer a panic attack if you are breathing properly. If you know you are going to face a situation which makes you feel very anxious, prepare yourself beforehand by practicing deep breathing. This can be a very successful way to stop panic attacks from occurring.
Hey - so nice of you to stop by! I hope you leave a comment.
