Making A Worm Bin
Have you wanted to have your compost to be ready quickly? Me too. A really easy way to get your compost finished in a very short period of time is to make a worm bin. Although there are many designs for a worm bin, the easiest one requires only a single plastic box, two lids and some bricks.
You start by drilling holes around the top of the box and in the lid about every inch for air. You also drill drain holes for drainage. Now, nest the bricks in the other lid and place the box on top of that and cover with the lid you drilled holes in.
You now need to tear pieces of black and white newspaper. Dunk these in water and wring them out. Fill the worm bin about 2/3 full with the moist newspaper strips. Add red wiggler worms and kitchen scraps.
Keep adding kitchen scraps every few days and keep the newspaper moist. In about two or three months, the worms will have eaten through the bedding and the food. Now you can collect the worm compost. To do this, simple push the old bedding aside and add fresh bedding (newspapers) and add kitchen scraps to the side with the fresh bedding. The worms will find their way there in a few days. Then you can collect the worm compost and use in your garden.
Hey - so nice of you to stop by! I hope you leave a comment.
