In the Cockpit: The World of RC Aircraft Pilot Figures
Pilot figures for RC planes come in all types of materials, styles, sizes and personalities. They slip quietly and inconspicuously into their flying machine and wait to take off from the runway. World War I pilots, World War II bomber pilots, Fred Flintstone, Snoopy, and even Beanie Babies have found their way into the cockpit of a radio controlled airplane. Barbie dolls remain popular while the occasional Grim Reaper, Skeleton or even a witch whizzes around the RC airfield in an oval pattern. One of the newest crazes is to have an artist carve the real-life RC pilot’s likeness from balsa, paint it and add suitable clothing. This type of custom-designed RC pilot makes quite a conversation piece whether at an RC event or back home on the book shelf.
