A Christmas Quilt for the Family

It seemed that sewing a Christmas quilt to be given as a Christmas gift was a bit over the top when my wife mentioned her plans for doing so. Once she explained that she wasn’t talking about making it for this Christmas, or to be give as a gift but making one for our family to have and keep. That made a lot more sense to me than making a quilt to be given as a Christmas gift. My goodness!

She’s made a quilt before and it took her years to sew it and have it quilted, and it’s not finished yet; it still lacks the binding around the edges. But, the kaleidoscope pattern made of many small scraps of beautifully coordinated fabric is a true piece of art. It’s beautiful and amazing to everyone who has seen it, so my thoughts of the enormous amount of time it takes to make a quilt were skewed by my recollection of what she went thought while making it. However, now I can see that my apprehension over the making of a Christmas quilt are largely overblown because it will not be a difficult design like the kaleidoscope was.

Although not as complex, it will be a treasured piece, I’m sure. In fact it will become an heirloom, and it will be another one of those projects that she’ll complete and then wonder why I though it would be such a big deal. That’s what makes her amazing.
